Soul Birthing

Doula and Traditional Birth Keeper

In 2004 and 2007, I gave birth unattended to my two daughters in rural South Africa (read the story of my second birth here).

These precious experiences opened me to a deep calling, present in my lineage, to be part of the birth keepers circle and to serve women through childbirth and beyond.

In 2007, I qualified as a birth doula with Childbirth International and I immediately started to work as a birth attendant in South Africa with respected midwives like Karen Clark. I have, since then, continued my ongoing learning by travelling and working with midwives around the world. More recently, I worked with an Indonesian midwife in Bali, attending home birth together with her through the pandemic. I also brought the trainings of Helping Baby Breathe and Helping Mother Survive (HHB and HMS) at Bumi Sehat, birthing center in Bali lead by Ibu Robin Lim.

Since 2015, I have organized retreats in South Portugal, my primary residence, around the theme of traditional midwifery and the empowerment of women around the world to regain our authority and right to birth our children and a new humanity in a non medical and non invasive way.

These retreats provide a hands on sharing and learning environment for birth keepers or women who are called to attend birth in diverse situations and more specifically in low resource settings like at home.

The main facilitator of those retreats and dear friend/colleague for many years is Ruth Ehrhardt, a renowned trained traditional midwife from South Africa.

I highly recommend mothers and professionals to buy the booklet that Ruth wrote as a fundamental base to understand and support birth. You can find it here

From my early step as a birth keeper, I take deep inspiration from the tremendous work of Dr Michel Odent. See www.wombecology.com

May we all be free to birth however we chose to, in a safe, held environment with no unnecessary intervention.
